People will always gravitate to a specialist programme, not a generalist one, this is why Adobe was so popular in the first place. XD has tons of basic Wishlist requests that have been sitting dead for years, yet the updates they bring out are 3D and 'wow prototyping' features that are totally unnecessary. I'd invite you to take a look at the Wishlists of both XD and Figma, and then look at their changelog. The new auto layout is brilliant and so powerful allowing the content in your design to dynamically switch/move depending on how much copy is in a text box or when you add new elements. The element states handler is brilliant, a single element can have unlimited states (appearances) to showcase hover interactions or just sprint designs to a client. The typography panel is intuitive and has access to all the features of a typeface, XD is still missing this (no surprise). Vector building is a breeze, general tools which have been missing for years now in XD (looking at you vertical text-align) are all there. Its design system is second to none, so building these systems is easy and intuitive and doesn't feel like it ever limits you, unlike XD. I think I'll continue using XD for the time being but slowly migrate to Figma as it seems to be the clear winnerįigma is the most used because it gets the basic UI tools right. Thanks a heap for the replies! All very interesting. I'm wondering what the community thinks on the matter? Some might say Figma is clearly the best option but XD seems most intuitive to me. XD – My preferred choice currently as I'm really well versed in the adobe suite and it feels most intuitive to me. I wonder if it's because it's web based and free? Rather than actually the best one to use

Sketch – The first digital design program I heard of, perhaps has the best original features but is Mac only so could limit client availability.įigma – Everyone seems to use this. Recently we've all been using XD as it's really easy to convert our Illustrator designs and pop out a preview link, but as we're at the early stage of adoption I'm wondering what's the best program to use going forward? More and more clients are asking for web design files in Sketch/Figma or even other programs, and we have to shift accordingly. Up until recently we've designed them in Illustrator and out web parter was great at pulling out the assets and building it himself. I work in branding as a graphic designer, so naturally at some point we have to design websites.
